Safety and Risk Management Officer


This position is responsible for planning, initiating, directing, coordinating, and implementing all risk management, health, and safety activities at The Arc of the Ozarks.  This employee is expected to work very closely with appropriate management professionals to identify the health and safety needs of persons served and personnel, provide continuous development of safety policies and procedures as well as effective implementation of these policies.  The Safety and Risk Management Officer is ultimately responsible for having an effective workplace safety program and culture in place. 

Responsibilities include providing technical guidance, training, inspection/risk analysis in all program and administrative environments to ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency, Occupational Safety & Health Administration, International and State Fire Codes, Department of Environmental & Natural Resources, Office of Emergency Management, CARF Accreditation, and regulatory requirements from Medicaid Waiver and funding entities.

Additional responsibilities include the development of an annual risk management plan, supervising all health and safety related training including medication administration, investigating accidents/workers compensation claims, and updating nursing policies when necessary.  The employee will supervise all activities of the health/safety committee, the human rights committee, serve as the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Privacy Officer, and monitor The Arc’s safety program to minimize workers compensation claims.

Minimum Experience and Training Qualifications

Requires a broad or in-depth knowledge of health and safety management as it pertains to not-for-profit organizations.  Previous not-for-profit experience is preferred.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, or a related safety field with three years of professional experience is required.   A bachelor’s degree in a human services field with five years of professional supervisory experience in working with persons with disabilities in community based programs may substitute for a safety degree provided the individual has extensive health and safety management experience.
