STEM Instructor
This role is key to delivering engaging STEM education to students and community members, fostering curiosity and lifelong learning. This flexible and fulfilling role lets you create impactful learning experiences in a hands-on, engaging environment. Whether you’re a college student, preservice teacher, or retired educator, this is an excellent opportunity to make an impact in STEM education while growing professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead engaging STEM programs, including after-school care, weekend workshops, and occasional evening events.
- Deliver hands-on science lessons in schools, libraries, community events, afterschool and virtually.
- Facilitate summer camps, scout workshops, afterschool programs and field trip programs at the Discovery Center.
- Collaborate with other educators and staff to innovate and enhance curriculum.
- Ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students and participants.
Qualifications:
- College students, preservice teachers, or retired educators passionate about STEM education.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license (some programs require travel).
- Flexibility to work shifts that can vary between 7:00 AM and 6:30 PM, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Opportunities for Advancement: The Discovery Center is committed to the professional development of its team members. STEM Instructors can advance into more specialized or leadership roles, including becoming a more qualified formal educator through hands-on experience and curriculum development, growing as a science communicator, with opportunities to develop engaging presentations for diverse audiences, progressing to senior leadership roles such as Director of Education, where you can oversee and innovate educational programming for the entire organization. Many of our past staff have leveraged their experience at the Discovery Center to launch careers in teaching, science communication, and non-profit leadership. Others have gone on to become engineers, lab managers, and medical professionals.
