POSITION:             Systems Engineer

LOCATION:           The Library Center – 4653 S Campbell Avenue – Springfield, MO

Classification:      Full Time

Salary:                   IT Engineer              

FLSA Status:        Non-Exempt

SALARY:               Range $24.31 – $37.30 per hour

This is a full-time position, approximately 40 hours per week with benefits. Working hours are typically Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library’s responsibility to the citizens of Greene County. 

This position requires a BA/BS or AA/AS in combination with CompTIA certification (e.g., CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+) and equivalent related experience will be considered. A Master's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred. Position Summary

The Systems Engineer manages and maintains Windows Server environments, ensuring stability, security, and optimal performance while performing regular backups and implementing disaster recovery plans. The role ensures SQL Server databases' reliability, performance, and protection. This role supports network infrastructure, handles complex technical issues as a help desk escalation point, and develops and maintains websites.

Essential Functions

Systems Administration:

Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, ensuring stability, security, and optimal performance

Perform regular system backups and implement disaster recovery plans

Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise

Ensure timely installation of updates, patches, and security fixes

Manage network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls

Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and processes

Help Desk Escalation:

Serve as an escalation point for the help desk, providing advanced support and resolving complex technical issues

Provide guidance and training to help desk personnel to improve their technical skills and knowledge

Wix Administration:

Develop and maintain websites using Wix, ensuring they are functional, user-friendly, and visually appealing

Collaborate with content creators to ensure the website meets business objectives

Implement new features and functionalities on the Wix platform as needed

Monitor website performance and resolve any issues promptly

Google Sites Administration:

Administer and manage Google sites and solutions

Customize Google Workspace to meet the needs of various departments and teams

Develop and maintain workflows, document libraries, and lists within Google Workspace

Provide training and support to end-users on Google Workspace features and functionalities.

Network Administration:

Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN)

Configure and install network hardware such as servers, routers, and switches

Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability

Perform network maintenance and system upgrades, including service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security configurations

Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and other network and system problems

Replace faulty network hardware components when necessary

Provide network support and guidance to users and troubleshoot user problems

Implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware

Monitor network traffic for suspicious activities and security breaches

Develop and enforce policies for network usage and security

Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases

Ensure the availability, performance, security, and integrity of the databases

Perform database backups, restores, and recovery procedures

General:

Skills/Job Knowledge

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as well as interpersonal skills

Ability to effectively listen to and respond to staff inquiries

Strong technical skills in systems administration and network management

Proficiency with Windows Server administration, backup, and maintenance

Knowledge of network infrastructure, including switches, routers, and firewalls

Experience with Wix development and web administration

Experience with Google Workspace administration and customization

In-depth knowledge of Meraki networking technologies and best practices

Familiarity with Meraki Dashboard for device management and monitoring

Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, VLAN, DHCP)

Ability to configure and troubleshoot Meraki MV security cameras

Knowledge of network security principles and practices

Familiarity with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell

Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Applications, and relevant IT tools

Ability to interact with all levels of management and staff

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups, handle multiple tasks, exercise good judgment, and maintain confidentiality

Project management and analytical skills

Commitment to quality assurance and quality control

Education/Experience

Proven experience in systems administration and network management

Experience as a Wix developer and Google Workspace administrator is preferred

Proven experience as a Network Administrator with experience in Cisco Meraki solutions preferred

Physical Demands

Perform bending, squatting, kneeling, and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height.

Occasional lifting of supplies, print materials, and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.

Regular computer keyboard, deskwork

Working Environment

Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment

Miscellaneous Requirement

Must pass a security background check
