Burrell Community Partner Award Missouri Area Council - Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield
October 2, 2019 (Springfield) (Mo) –
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield recently hosted the Missouri Area Council Meeting where Burrell Behavioral Health was honored for partnering with the Club to bring mental health services to local youth, especially those most at-risk.
Burrell received the Key Community Partner Honor Award for their commitment to providing effective input and services to help young people to thrive in our community. The purpose of Burrell Behavioral Health’s (BBH) partnership is to identify mental health service needs, connect members with initial mental health services and provide additional mental health resources and tools to both parents and Club staff.
BBH provides Community Support Specialists at each Club site who focus on teaching members and parents skills to overcome obstacles, both emotional and behavioral, that interfere with daily lives. They also provide mental health services to families even if a child doesn’t qualify, including housing, utility assistance, food assistance, medical, dental and mental health care. In addition, Burrell Behavior Health provides training and resources for staff to work with members who struggle with emotional and behavior management.
BBH has changed the climate at the Club’s sites and also plays a vital role on the Club’s mental health committee. BBH has had between 250-300 referrals from staff and member parents for service, half of those resulting in admissions needing intensive services. Approximately 150 of those children have been able to access mental health services they otherwise would not have been able to access. With this partnership, the hope is to normalize mental health for our staff, youth and their parents as needed and to ultimately have more healthy citizens in our community.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
