About the Role

We are seeking a software developer to join our dynamic team in developing and maintaining cutting-edge software solutions for genomic data analysis and management. In this role, you will collaborate with management, laboratory staff, and customers to gather and define system requirements, design software solutions, and create custom applications to support genomic research and data processing.

As a key member of our development team, you will write, test, and maintain software used for data analysis, graphic generation, data transmission, and automation of application-based tasks. You will also troubleshoot existing software, enhance functionality, and ensure the systems you develop are secure and compliant with HIPAA standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaboration & Requirement Gathering: Work closely with management, laboratory staff, and customers to identify user needs and technical requirements for software solutions.
  • Software Development: Design, write, test, and maintain code for new software applications focused on genomic data analysis, data management, custom graphics generation, PDF creation, and data transmission.
  • System Design & Maintenance: Work with customers or internal departments to address technical issues related to system design, software maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Automation Development: Create and maintain software solutions that automate repetitive application-based tasks to increase efficiency.
  • API Management: Maintain, enhance, and expand existing API interfaces and ensure seamless integration with other systems.
  • Software Troubleshooting & Debugging: Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues in existing software to improve functionality and system reliability.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare clear and concise reports detailing project specifications, activities, progress, and software status.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure all software meets data security protocols and HIPAA-compliance standards to protect sensitive genomic data.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Software Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.


Experience

  • Proven experience in software development, with a focus on data-intensive applications.
  • Experience with MS Access or SQL Server is preferred.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, Visual Basic, or similar.
  • Familiarity with data management systems, genomic data formats (e.g., VCF), and bioinformatics tools.

  Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and software engineering best practices.
  • Experience with API development and integration.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with data security protocols and maintaining HIPAA-compliant systems.

Problem-Solving Skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot and debug complex software issues, with a focus on improving performance and usability.

Communication Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
