OCH Expands Program for Treatment-Resistant Depression
Ozarks Community Hospital (OCH) is excited to announce the expansion of its Spravato service to the Evergreen Behavioral Health Clinic in Springfield. Spravato is an innovative prescription medication designed to treat adults with treatment-resistant depression.
OCH already administers Spravato at its hospital in Gravette, Arkansas. Bringing Spravato to the Evergreen Behavioral Health Clinic will allow OCH to better serve patients with treatment-resistant depression across the Springfield metro area.
Spravato is administered to patients on-site at the Evergreen Behavioral Health Clinic. Patients will be asked to stay at the clinic to monitor their response to the medication.
Spravato is an FDA-approved formulation of esketamine, delivered via a nasal spray. It works by blocking a specific type of receptor in the brain, helping to regulate mood and improve symptoms of depression — sometimes in as little as a few hours. Spravato is most effective when combined with an oral antidepressant.
More than 21 million adults in the United States struggle with major depressive disorder (MDD). Patients who have taken two or more antidepressants without relief may have treatment-resistant depression. According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 30% of those diagnosed with MDD have treatment-resistant depression.
